Using the Draw tab
Whether you use a digital pen, touchscreen, or mouse, the drawing features in Office can help you add notes, create shapes, edit text, and more. The Draw tab is available in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Most features are available in Office 365 and Office 2019, though some are exclusive to Office 365.

Adding the Draw tab to the Ribbon
The Draw tab is normally found on the Ribbon. However, if you don't see it, here is how to add it:
- Right-click the Ribbon and select Customize the Ribbon.
- Check the box next to Draw in the list of Main Tabs.
- Click OK. The Draw tab will now be available.
What can the Draw tab do?
The Draw tab offers three types of textures: pen, pencil, and highlighter. To choose one, simply click it and you're ready to start drawing.
If you want to change its color or thickness, click the drop-down arrow next to the tool and select your preference. When you're done, click away from the menu to resume drawing.
Advanced features
Ink to Shape
Drawing perfect shapes by hand is difficult. The Ink to Shape tool helps by analyzing your hand-drawn sketch and converting it into a polished, geometric shape.
The Ink to Shape feature will then figure out what type of shape you've drawn and correct any imperfections to make it look more polished.
Ink to Math
For complex math equations, the Ink to Math tool reads your handwriting and translates it into a properly formatted digital equation.
Ink Editor (Word Exclusive)
Exclusive to Office 365, the Ink Editor allows you to edit documents naturally. You can circle text to select it or cross out text to delete it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the Draw tab without a touchscreen?
Yes! While it is easiest with a digital pen or touchscreen, you can use all of these features with a standard mouse or trackpad by selecting the Draw with Touch (or Mouse) toggle.
Why don't I see Ink Editor in my version of Word?
Ink Editor is a cloud-based feature exclusive to Office 365. If you are using Office 2019 or an older version, this specific tool will not be available.
How do I stop drawing and go back to typing?
Click the Select (arrow icon) on the far left of the Draw tab. This will turn off the drawing tool and allow you to interact with text and objects normally.
