Windows 10 has many built-in features to keep your computer safe from viruses and malware. Below are some important security tools.
User Account Control
User Account Control warns you when a program or user tries to change your settings. Your screen will lock until an administrator approves the changes. This protects your computer from harmful software and mistakes. You can also choose how often you see these warnings.
Windows Security
Windows Security (formerly Windows Defender) protects your computer from viruses and malware. It scans your computer for harmful applications. It also provides real-time protection, checking files and programs as you open them. This helps keep your computer safe without slowing it down.
Windows Firewall
Windows Firewall protects your internet connection. It blocks unauthorized access from outside connections. This helps keep your network safe from harmful threats.
Windows SmartScreen
Windows SmartScreen warns you about unsafe files and apps. When it detects a threat, it shows a full-screen warning. You should not open the file unless you are sure it is safe.
Updating Windows
Microsoft automatically provides updates to keep your computer secure. These updates include security fixes and new features. You can also check for updates manually in the Settings app under Update & Security.
Pausing Updates
Sometimes, new updates may have issues. If you don’t want updates right away, you can pause them. This won’t stop security updates, but it delays new features.
To pause updates:
- Open Update & Security settings.
- Select Advanced options.
- Choose a date from the drop-down menu.
Your updates will be paused until the selected date. Security updates will still be installed.
Backup and Recovery
Windows 10 can back up your files to an external hard drive. If something happens to your computer, your files will be safe.
To set up a backup:
- Open Update & Security settings.
- Select Backup.
- Click Add a drive and choose an external hard drive.
If you lose files or need to reset Windows, use the Recovery settings.
