The insertion point is the blinking vertical line in your document. It shows where you can type text on the page. You can use the insertion point in several ways.

Starting a New Document: When you open a new blank document, the insertion point appears in the top-left corner. You can start typing from there.

Adding Spaces: Press the spacebar to add spaces after a word or between words.

Creating a New Line or Paragraph: Press the Enter key to move the insertion point to the next line or start a new paragraph.

Placing the Insertion Point Manually: After you start typing, you can click anywhere in the text to move the insertion point to that spot.

Using Arrow Keys: You can move the insertion point using the arrow keys on your keyboard. The left and right arrows move it between characters on the same line. The up and down arrows move it between lines. Pressing Ctrl with the left or right arrow keys moves it between whole words.

In a new blank document, you can also double-click the mouse to move the insertion point to a different place on the page.

Understanding how to use the insertion point helps you control where you add or edit text in your document.
